Ingredients
14 grapefruits
2 tapa de dulce (unrefined cane sugar cake) or 1 cup syrup
1 cloves
1 jamaica (hibiscus flowers)
2 vanilla
2 leaves fig leaves
4 cinnamon sticks
5 water
Directions
  1. Peel the grapefruits and separate them into segments. In a pot with boiling water, cook them for approximately 25 minutes.
  2. Remove the segments and place them in a container with water. The water should be changed throughout the day (10 times) to eliminate the bitter taste.
  3. Squeeze the segments one by one by hand.
  4. In an iron pot over heat with 5 cups of water, add the dulce cakes or syrup with the ingredients until a syrup forms. At this point, add the grapefruit segments until they absorb part of the syrup. Remove from heat.
  5. Note: If made with syrup, it takes on a reddish color.
