tapa de dulce (unrefined cane sugar cake) or 1 cup syrup

Directions
- Peel the grapefruits and separate them into segments. In a pot with boiling water, cook them for approximately 25 minutes.
- Remove the segments and place them in a container with water. The water should be changed throughout the day (10 times) to eliminate the bitter taste.
- Squeeze the segments one by one by hand.
- In an iron pot over heat with 5 cups of water, add the dulce cakes or syrup with the ingredients until a syrup forms. At this point, add the grapefruit segments until they absorb part of the syrup. Remove from heat.
- Note: If made with syrup, it takes on a reddish color.
