Ingredients
500 gr soft yellow corn
5 piece(s) liters of water
250 gr wood ash
1/2 cup(s) pork rinds
1 tbsp butter
pinch salt to taste
Directions
  1. Cook the soft yellow corn in water with wood ash until the husk begins to come off. Then wash it in a basket or sieve and let it rest in cold water overnight.
  2. The next day, grind the corn together with the pork rinds, after adding salt and butter. Knead everything until you get a smooth consistency to form the arepas, which should be 0.5 cm thick. If necessary, add warm water to moisten and give elasticity to the dough.
  3. Place the arepas on a griddle and brown them on both sides until they are nicely toasted.
