The Jamaica flower (Hibiscus sabdariffa) is known in the islands as sorrel. The calyx of this plant, when ripe and dark red in color, is dried and used to prepare beverages and natural remedies.

gr hibiscus flower

piece(s) medium ginger root, grated

tbsp ground cinnamon

tbsp anise seeds
pinch sugar to taste

Directions
- Bring the water to a boil in an enamel, enameled, or Teflon pot, cooking the ginger, cinnamon, and anise there for 10 minutes.
- Add the hibiscus flower, cover the pot, and remove from heat.
- Let it rest until the drink is cold, add sugar to taste, and serve with ice.
- If desired, you can add a little liquor to give more flavor to this drink.
